BACKGROUND

Statistically, 1 in 4 kids in the United States are at risk for developmental delays.

Early milestone screenings can decrease this risk but due to issues in the clinical workflow, many pediatricians do not screen...

WHAT I DID

I joined BabyNoggin and acted as the lead product designer and researcher. In addition, I acted as a Product Manager; documenting and communicated closely with BabyNoggin’s remote engineering team.

I introduced the process of lean UX to let us move quickly and iteratively throughout the product cycle.

User Research

To understand what are parents thinking about, their current behaviors, and would this be a good product fit for them, I conducted a various user interviews with parents who have children 0-3 years old, asked a series 10-15 questions long, over a 2 week period to find the answer.

RESEARCH INSIGHTS

  • Parents cared about child development but felt under prepared for it

  • Parents with premature babies have a higher intrinsic motivation to understand developmental delays and how to prevent them

  • Parents care about their child's developmental progress and are interested in tools that help them monitor and track their progress.

 
 
 
 

Iterative Design

Usability testing played a huge role for this portion of design. From the research conducted and understanding parent’s motivations and needs, the main functionality of the mobile application was to have a parent take a developmental screening test with their child and receive initial results. Supplementary features included personalized activities to help development and access to public parent organizations and guides.

Through a series of Google Hangouts and in-person meetings, I created low and high fidelity prototypes and tested with real parents to validate my ideas. I iterated off feedback until there was a positive consensus that validated my ideas.

Impact

While I'm not on the BabyNoggin team anymore, during my time I provided them the initial assets to start refining V3 of BabyNoggin.

  • Scoped out what MVP features were needed in BabyNoggin's mobile application for their 2018 Launch

  • Introduced parent personas in addition to their existing doctor personas

  • Introduced a complete flow of a parent accessing the mobile app and taking a developmental test for their child

  • Introduce new designs and interactions for future improvements and iterations
